What is PBIS?

What-is-PBIS-data-systems-practices_edit

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health.

  • When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social emotional competence, academic success, and school climate.

  • It also improves teacher health and wellbeing.

  • It is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives.

Why Implement PBIS?

By implementing evidence-based practices within a PBIS framework, schools support their students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success, engage with families to create locally meaningful and culturally relevant outcomes, and use data to make informed decisions that improve the way things work for everyone.

Over 25 years of empirical evidence demonstrates how PBIS, a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) framework, provides a foundation for outcomes across a wide range of priorities, such as integration of academic and behavioral instruction (IMTSS), interconnecting community and school mental health systems (ISF), equity, staff wellness, community agency partnerships, and more.

Center on PBIS

Funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) and the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE), the Center on PBIS supports schools, districts, and states to build systems capacity for implementing a multi-tiered approach to social, emotional and behavior support.

PBIS Apps

Our apps empower educators to make data-informed decisions in real time for the best student outcomes. Everything we offer at PBISApps is based on research and offered at prices that work within the current realities of school budgets — namely free where we can, and affordable everywhere else.

Midwest PBIS Network

The Midwest PBIS Network (MWPBIS) is a non-profit organization of education and human services leaders advancing systems change in youth-serving settings. MWPBIS partners with many agencies on advancing research to practice, and establishing demonstrations to build local capacity for sustainable implementation.
